Hi all,

I was always wondering, and would appreciate your comments on this topics:

ARe Major SEs SERPs for frequently search terms / competitive markets (such as "hosting", "online poker", "britney spears"... ) being reviews and edited by human editors? My guess it to a certain extent - "yes!". Mainly in Yahoo! search.

Will love you hear your 2c ;)

Assaf.

I am not so sure about "never"...there must be instances when a technician will come in and make a manual adjustment if something really hideaous gets through ... say in a family friendly sector...

Yes, I'm sure they sometimes do this when they get legal complaints.

One example is Kazaa Lite in Sep 2003. Sharman Networks filed a DCMA compliant and Google removed 8 sites that contained the hacked version of Kazaa.

Search for Kazaa on Google and you'll get the following message: "In response to a complaint we received under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 5 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint for these removed results."

Just:

Thanks guys.

I think he fundemental questions is whether for very competitive terms: hosting, online casino, etc.. there's someone who's actually watching the SERPs every day (for example) in order to monitor and evaluate corresponding the search resulrs.

We all know how important it could be to get a good position on google for such terms.

Just for this reason human access to SERPs is forbidden.

NEVER! Humans can only spam them.

Sarcasm, right?

Well, for starters, someone must determine "authority" sites. There are PR8 sites out there with less than a 1000 backlinks, and there are PR5 sites with 10000. There are PR6 sites out there withoout any PR6 or higher backlinks. There are PR5 sites with 10th of PR7 packlinks. I don't know much about the algo, but I can assure you humans built the original structure. Which then, if you think about it, makes end result human-edited.

#2 - they can ban or downgrade sites, and then algo takes care of the rest. If this is not a human-editing SERPs, I don't know what is.

Good,professor.

So, you could explain us "starters" how you came to this conclusion!?

What does it mean that someone must determine the "authority" of a site? It's the aleksl principle?

What does it mean that sites with "n" backlinks...bla bla?

What does it mean that they ban or downgrade some sites?

Do you really think that someone carries out these operation "by hand"?

Sorry but you have still to learn more about internet and SEs...

And I am learning, and I assume certain someone here knows everything? The easiest way to win an argument is to attack your opponent, right? :)

for "authority" sites, do a Google search on "authority sites". It is a requirement for Hiltop algorythm.

Backlinks "blah" I won't even begin explaining.

"ban" or "downgrade" - read WebmasterWorld forum

Do you really think that someone carries out these operation "by hand"?

Yes, absolutely. I can guarantee you that (a)Google has a department somewhere that reviews SERPs and reviews sites, and (b)one can report spam sites to Google, and typically - if it is real spam - they disappear from Google immediately; you don't suppose they change algo just for that one site? funny you. There's a guy somewhere in India who ads that site to a "ban" list, or to a list that has negative weight on algorythm.
