Using underscores and dashes in the extensions. Which to use or not?

I have a few questions.
Q.1. Does anyone have link to the thread that discusses using underscores and dashes in the extensions. I lost the link. I'd like to use this for SEO for the words in the urls.

Q.2. Anyone have information on how to use these to combine with the keywords?
Ex. widgetcredit.com/credit_repair.htm

vs widgetcredit.com/credit-repair.htm

Q. 3. Which is better?

Q.4. And how to form these for better results?
