Hi everyone,

I'm writing some brochure copy for a marketing company whose services include conducting and managing keyword buys for their clients. (Besides email marketing, this is the only web-based service this company offers.)

My question is, how should I best describe this in one bullet, without overstating what they do? Client believes it should be listed as Search Engine Marketing (SEM), but I want to be sure this term doesn't convey a broader range of activities than just managing keyword buys. Would SEP be a better choice? What about just saying "Search Engine Advertising"?

More generally, can someone tell me their definition of SEP versus SEM -- what's the difference?

Thanks!

  • PPC Bid Management Services

SEP = Search Engine Positioning
SEM = Search Engine Marketing

SEP is a subset of SEM. PPC Bid Management Services are a subset of SEM. Yes, SEM does cover a very broad range of services. SEO is also a subset of SEM.
