Hosting on two servers - is this a SEO problem

Wondering if hosting on two servers will affect my visibility

I have a guy who did and maintains a PHP/MySQL database and search functionality and I have done the rest of my website. So far, I have been hosting my website on his server, but I am not very happy with speed, etc. At the same time he is not very comfortable maintaining the database on a different server (he is relatively new guy). So I thought that I could host the website on a fast server, but link the search functionality to the old server.
I know that technically this is not an issue, however I am not sure if this "jumping" between different servers will not affect my overall internet visibility and ranking. Any comments, experience and suggestions will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Take two balanced servers for the front-end and use a clustered database configuration. You will split the effort of the site in two but it will be seen as one single site from outside. You can also add the third server only for database if the clustered solution is not appropiate for you.
