how do I know what are my competitive keywords in SE's?

Hi all, relative newbie to both the forum and the SE world here. My question is as above - Obviously I have some idea of some keyword phrases that are going to be popular with regards to my site but is there any way of getting a more definitive list rather than just what is in my head?

The kind of thing I mean is knowing what my competitors, who rank highly in SE's, consider their main keyword phrases, and hence target them the most?

Now I know there is a very good chance that this is a ridiculous question given the knowledge floating around but please be gentle!

Hi Heaps21,

Use The Overture, Google and WordTracker Keyword Tools. You will find them all if you search on G.

WordTracker you can only use for one day without buying the whole thing but that should be long enough for you to compile a nefty list.

The Overture tool is handy as unlike Google's tool it gives you the Number of Impressions on Each Keyword entered for the Previous month.

Also you can use Internet Business Promoter software. This application goes to the keyword search pages of some search engines including Yahoo, Overture, Google.
