i have seen mention in this column on doing optimized pages with a css page...

our web has been dropped from alta... i had enjoyed #1 rank in minneapolis for over 2 years...

when i asked alta about the drop they said:>>>>>>>You have been blocked

There's another thing that intrigues me about this "cat & mouse" game. You come up with something that keeps you ahead of the "cat" for a while and it catches on with other "mice" and news of it gets back to the cat so the cat changes the rules! I love it! Makes me wonder, though, Brett is the BL safe for a while? You don't think they're gonna change the rules on us, do you?

BL is certainly safe for quite awhile. I've addressed everything I know how too. We are getting ready to address the final issue with context sensitive links.

We even made a bit of headway on Inktomi this week. The best linked on Ink as a result of Buddy links is now over 150. Ink has been agressive at dumping pages based on links.

Inktomi is identifying links pages by a complex algo.

a) are the links in context to the site 'theme'? If not, they walk down the following criteria:
b) number of pages linking to the target page. Less than 1 gets dumped. Must have atleast one insite link to the page.
c) number of links on the page. anything over 100 gets dumped unless it passes one of the 'other tests' for page quality (linkage plays a big role here).
d) size of page in proportion to the number of links on it.
e) where are the links appearing? Pages that are just lists of links are history. Pages that have links in search engine/directory style do remain but see others above.

The biggest factors are the number of links pointing at the page and if the links are in context to the rest of the site.
I've been noticing many sites that are getting 1 or 2 links pages indexed. They don't line up with submission order or anything along that nature. It appears the pages that get index have atleast 10 links on them that are incontext to the rest of the sites content.

the above is all in reference to Inktomi and is *not* applicable to other search engines.
