Hello, I am new to Webmaster World, I've been reading these articles for a couple of days because I was contacted by a SEO Company out of the blue. They sound very legit to me, but i am a small guy who is trying to launch a business and not getting any results what so ever. I feel I'm spending my money in all the wrong places. I have a good knowledge with computers but when it comes to the SEO stuff I am clueless.. I dont think i could do most of the guides, so i figured if I hire a SEO it could help my business. I also want to shop before i jump with the first company, but i dont know any reputable one's. From what i understand we cannot discuss name of acutal companies, so if anyone can put them in a message to me, that would be great. The company who contacted me is being very flexible with me and is negotiating the terms in the contract to make me feel more at ease. I read a post that spoke about questions to ask, and most of them have been answered well - But again i dont want to jump into something that i will regret.

Currently im advertising with OV but this CPC business is way too expensive just to be a sponsored match that shows up last and I am not even in the Content untill the 20th page if i am lucky.

I guess this is a cry for help hehe.
Any advice would be great.

Thank You
Alain

Hello Alain - welcome to Webmasterworld.

First off - I would not recommend using any company that contacted you "out of the blue" - you might take a minute to read Google's SEO page in their webmaster info:

[google.com...]

Secondly, you might try reading some of the "do it yourself" advice here, including
Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone
[webmasterworld.com] written by Brett Tabke, the founder of Webmaster World.

If you decide it is a better investment of your time to hire a company / individual to do your SEO - I would look deep into their client list - and ask to see numerous examples of current and long-term site promotion - as there are tricks that might get you to #1 for a few months - but then get your site permanently banned.
