Multiple domains

can I take advantage of our numerous domains?

We have a good seven or so domain names. Does anybody know of any good ways to take advantage of this with regards SEO?

Can I make each site appear subtley different and have them cross link on occasion? Has anybody tried this?

Yes. That would work well.

Make each new domain a site of its own but promoting only a part of the orginal site.

Example... main site = store with video,dvd,electronics etc

Site 1 = video
Site 2 = DVD
Site 3 = telephone.
ETC

this work well and will give each its own identity

I agree with what drbill is saying - but you might want to hold off on the crosslinking until after you've gotten directory listings for each of the sites. Yahoo and others will check for crosslinking and if they spot it they'll only allow one of your sites to be listed.
