Keyword density analysis

Can anyone give us some advice on how to perform keyword density analysis. I have read that you want to be achieving a keyword density of around 2 to 5%.

Whe using the tool <snip> what figures should you take note of? The Visible text figure or the total figure?

There are hundreds of KWD tools out there online, and as per terms of service (see the link at the bottom of this page), we don't really get into discussing specific tools.

One we can use, and I recommend for the sake of consistency, is Brett's analyser at [searchengineworld.com...]

Keyword density is going to become less and less important as search engines get smarter and LSI takes off. Don't worry too much about it. As long as your keyphrase appears 1-3 times on the page you should be fine. The important thing is to just write naturally and write GOOD content.

What about the common wisdom of keyword density being somewhere between 7% and 20%? Do you folks think that doesn't apply anymore? Is it too much?

IMO, it is what common wisdom is worth. ;-)

Seriously, it's a fine general guideline. But I've never made much money following general guidelines. :o
