Just wondering if somebody could help. Have spent a lot of money on getting a website optimised, did quite a bit of research on the optimisation company beforehand, but now, nearing the end of the 6 month campaign, the results are rubbish. Getting an extra 7 clicks per day through search engines! Is there any watchdog or complaints authority that I could go to with this? They are still trying to convince me of their success - but for a £2500 outlay, there is no way I am happy. Has anyone else had this from Search Engine promotion/optimisation companies?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], Onders.

There's no SEO watchdog, but they are covered by the same laws as any other company. Did you sign a contract with them? Have they met the terms of that contract? If not, you can ask for a refund or try suing them for breach of contract.

What are they saying is successful about their work?

If your site is stuck in the Google sandbox, you may want to cut them some slack. We have some tough issues with clients right now and we just try our best to explain what challenges we face. If your site had very little link popularity before March of this year, you may be facing the same issues that a lot of new sites are facing.

We've optimized well over 50 sites in a wide range of industries and we have one client for whom we have done an incredible job. Added 200 pages of algorithm content, got the site a PR of 5 with over 75 backlinks showing and it still seems to be stuck in the sandbox.

thanks for your reply encyclo. Unfortunately we did sign a contract with them. And yes - it is worded quite cleverly. They are saying they are succesful because their initial report showed that we were getting 10 hits from search engine searches a day - whilst now, after nearly 6 months, we are getting 19 hits from search engines a day. Even if we assume that the other marketing we are doing is not getting our name out there, the absolute maximum they have achieved is another 9 or so hits a day for us. But of course this translates to a nearly 100% increase..

Is this really worth £2500?!

I would say ask for a refund of some sort - At the end of the day, after 6 months your site will have gained popularity anyway as it will have been properly spidered etc. £2500 seems extortionate for and extra handfull of visits and at the end of the day IMHO they promised to deliver and clearly havent. Afterall you could of spend £10 and got that ammount of extra traffice via PPC!

I would personally get a severly reduced bill or consult a solicitor....

Good luck

Doesn't seem like it, but what work have they actually done?
