dumb question i know but am new to this forum. Can some explain what blog is or stands for and does it work and if so how?

Richard,

Look at it is an online diary, journal, or a place to rant. Blogs are meant to be "off the cuff" writing. There are many articles online about Blogs, but I can't post URLs here. Google's Blogger is the one I use and I would recommend you just jump in with both feet.

Many bloggers link freely and without reciprocating so current thinking is thats a more valuable link.

Blogs have PR just like regular websites. There are some industry/professional segmented blogs that could provide actual traffic not just PR.

If you are using Blogs primarily for PageRank (PR) then you may be falling into the "black hat" area of SEM. However, if you are using Blogs for PR (Press Release), then you are just fine. By BlogSpamming, you are investing in a short-term solution, just as guestbook postings were driven out, so will Blogs if the spamming issues continue. Just my two cents ...
