I have set up a website and would like to start promoting it. I am looking at submission to search engines.

1. Any idea how to go about it? (Yahoo/Google/MSN)
What is the procedure and how long does it take to get my site listed.

2. Search engine optimization. How do I start off with this? Do I just make a note of keywords and phrases and build my content over it?

3. What is the purpose of linking my site to others. What is the procedure required for this? Should I create another page (for ex: www.abc.com/linking.htm) and put up all the links from other sites?

4. Do you think it would advisable to start off with banners and PPC for my website?

Welcome to Webmaster World! As your questions are general in nature and they have all been discussed at length on the boards, my advice is to shut your office door and turn off your phone for a few days and just read. You will get the answers you are seeking and also some you hadn't thought of before.
