Does it matter for Search Engines whether I use a .net or .com? The .com I want is already taken, so I would like to try te .net version.

Thank you.

I can't find the thread, but in the context of a discussion about whether links from some domains carry more weight than others, GoogleGuy said that no extension gets any advantage in G's algorithms. He said that high-PR .gov or .edu pages must earn their PR just like anyone else; the extensions do not affect how links are weighted or pages rated.

Humans might respond differently to some extensions than others, though, and I don't know about other SEs.

I know I've caught myself typing in dot-com even when I KNEW the site was dot-something-else.
