Public becoming smarter searchers

Number of keywords increasing

My impression is that in the UK, users of Google are tending to put in more keywords to find what they want than was the case a year or two ago.

It could be that the increase in spam means they rarely get to my sites with 1-2 keyword searchs, but I do not think that is the whole story.

Anyone else agree, or have stats to prove it?

Hi,

As you said it was partially right, peoples who starts searching with google or any SE may use basic keywords initially, once they are used to the searching, they tend to use exact keyword combination to get the desired website/webpage.

As you suspect users are getting smarter and even spammers/competitors are getting increased, there is only one solution, revamp your site and enforce some good SEO on all your pages. You need to do these updation once in month or two, if you are focussing on the Hits to you wibsite.

Just looking at some of last month's figures from the Overture suggestion tool, and it looks like more people are searching for more targeted longer phrases. I have just seen an 8 word query but this in an exception.

Searchers will only get smarter with more and more people having search engines in their life at a young age. Just think that 10 year olds are learning how to search in schools these days. Imagine how good the searchers will be in 10 years.

Good data on how searchers are trending toward longer search queries. OneStat measured the number of words used in search phrases worldwide between April 2003 and January 2004, and the breakdown is listed below. Figures in brackets show figures from the same time last year.

1 Word - 19.02% (24.76%)
2 Words - 32.58% (29.22%)
3 Words - 25.62% (24.33%)
4 Words - 12.83% (12.34%)
5 Words - 5.64% (5.43%)
6 Words - 2.32% (2.21%)
7 Words - 0.98% (0.94%)
