Does anyone have experience with marketing a nonprofit online? Any ideas for fundraising? Thanks.

I don't do it myself, but a lot of directories such as Yahoo will list your site for free.

As for the fundraising part. Are you talking making online fundraising donations possible for local fundraisers? Fundraising nationally online through national membership or fundraising online nationally via the general public and not via a membership?

I'm looking to do a variety of things:
(1) increase our overall web visibility by getting into web search engines, links, directories, etc. an d
(2) online giving: I have recently received many emails from friends doing events through active.com.... I like the simplicity of the interface, the reporting, etc. It got me thinking of trying some other way to reach small donors online and also increase our mailing lists, participation rates.... Are there competitors to active.com with comparable services with a less than 6% service charge? Other innovative ideas for online marketing AND fundraising? Thanks!

listing with guidestar[DOT]org is one option for fund gathering online. another is partnering with a local umbrella group for nfp's which already has an online presence.

As for directories, there's the ODP, and a host of others, including some that are probably local to you.
Don't forget local businesses which are supportive of the nfp when seeking links
