I am having a debate with a friend, wondered if anyone could decide it for us.
We have approx. 30 Domains, all of which contain our primary keyword. 3 of these sites have unique content, the others have yet to be set up. Ideally we want to populate the SERP's with all our our sites, or at least utilise our portfolio of relevant domain names.
My friend has suggested that we create microsites on each Domain that will act as doorway pages for the main site. This would obviusly require a massive amount of work and each domain would require its own link building camapign etc.
I have suggested that this is unethical and we should concentrate our efforts on one Domain (build links etc.) while employing a 301 redirect from the additional Domains so that they redirect to the main site. However, would this mean that we are not taking advantage of our additional domain names.
Can anyone settle this debate? Or are we both wrong?
Many thanks, Lee
Some people think it's wrong, maybe it is or maybe it's not, but if you don't care than go for it! Really you should ask yourself are you going to play by the search engines rules or your own, after all Google, Yahoo!, etc don't help us.

I tried going this route about a year ago with only about 7 sites all targeting the same industry. I found that producing any kind of quality content, establishing quality links, handling customer correspondence all began to get very taxing. Although I did manage to get about 5 out of 7 in decent SERP standings my ROI dropped because I did not have time to maintain the quality that I previously did when I was concentrating efforts on a single domain.
Since then, I have dropped all but two sites and my search engines ranking and ROI has returned to it previous high points.
IMO the old saying stands true – Quality, not quantity.
