The forums are vb software, the how-to pages are standard web pages and all start with www.mysite.com/tech.
What im wondering, is should I be getting links to both www.mysite.com and www.mysite.com/tech seperately?
What would happen if backlinks are going to multiple parts of the site like that?
When seeking backlinks it is ideal to have links pointing to different pages of your site to compliment the content on that particular page. This is viewed more favorably by search engines, and will also increase the value of your sites content to visitors that navigate to your site through such a link. For instance, if a particular page on your site has great content on how to install a widget, you should try and get backlinks to that particular page on the subject of “installing widgets”.
There is a post (that I have lost) on creating every page equally instead of a few all-star pages.
In short, what you want to do is:
Optimize each page with quality content and keywords and seek backlinks to those pages that will compliment the content shown. A huge bonus would be text-links from others sites where their link to you is keyword/phrase anchor text.
Good luck!
