We have 3 sites hosted on one server with same IP address for each of them.
All these 3 sites are now indexed in Google and other search engines.
All these 3 sites are realted to a single product, but the web designs are different. I am afraid if this is a good practice.
Will search engines (especially Google) blacklist any of such sites having same IP, same product but different designs?
Let me know your thoughts.
With warm regards
Rajiv
All these 3 sites are realted to a single product...
Rajiv - You're right to be very cautious about having sites with related search terms appear to be related in other ways... Among others, these include related IPs, similar search targets, related inbound links, similar content, and cross-linking.
You're clearly related because you're on the same IP, and related products could put you at risk in most of the other areas.
I frankly don't think that design is that important a factor, though template similarity as read by the search engines could well be.

Of course this isn't going to affect your sites. How many hosting companies out there are placing 100, 1,000, or more websites on a SINGLE IP ADDRESS thanks to host header-based configurations, load balancers, etc. I know of one host that has over 2,800 sites on a single IP and there aren't even any performance issues because a load balancer manages them and has them spread out across multiple servers. Most data centers today don't consider web hosting "justification" to receive more than a handful of IP's anymore anyway.
In the example I'm referring to, no one has had any trouble getting indexed and appearing in any search engine, and I know there are at least 3 companies selling medical supplies (I know because I referred them there) that sell the EXACT same power chairs and scooters but the 3 companies have nothing to do with each other. They're even using the same shopping cart and online Medicare application. All 3 of them have been in Google for more than 3 years without any problems.
Google will kick you out if they detect a clone or if you violate the TOS ... that's pretty much it.
