There are a few benefits, but the main (At least the one I like) one is you don't share your IP with other web site(s).

Are you talking about dedicated IP for your internet connection? If so, then your benefit would be being a web server yourself, a really slow one compared to major ISP providers, but it works.

If you are talking about a static IP for your website then as mentioned above you don't share it, but the benefit and "must have it" is when you buy your own SSL certificate otherwise you are pretty good with shared IP as I learned here at WebmasterWorld that shared IP won't hurt your rankings.
