I have a client who had a site called as "Domain1.com" . Since this domain was and (perhaps is) is linked from the web some where, it got indexed in google. Now client has bought a very good domain (Lets say domain2.com) and has pointed to the same webspace. Now if I open www.domain1.com or domain2.com, the same site opens. (Client does not want to drop the first domain as well since he has promoted that as well once in advertising)
The problem is that client does not wants us to promote his second domain www.domain2.com since it is really a beautiful domain. He wants to see the rankings for this domain and not for domain1.com. Now if i do seo for domain2.com, will I be caught as spammer since domain1.com is already indexed on the site.
I think of these solutions but I am not sure-
1. I have a script in every page which check that if the URl in the browser contains "domain1.com " in the url, it redirects it to home page of domain2.com.
2. If possible, i have a robots.txt which would only stop indexing of the site for the domain1.com in the url.
3. Again, i do not know how this can happen but if i can have something with permanent redirection 301 so that I also have PR of domain1.com also passed to the new domain.
Can experts comment on these solutions as well as new solutions that can think on.
Thanks for your help in advance..
There are many solutions [google.com] to this problem. Many of them depend on what kind of server the site is hosted on, or what server-side scripting languages you can use, so you might want to tell everyone.
