In order to see whether my changes improve the page's ranking, I would like to submit my URL to one of the SEs that re-submit your site every 24/48 hours, for about $40/yr, so that every time I make a change, I can see the effects on the page ranking. (I have seen several SEO experts recommend this strategy.)
I have three questions in this context:
1. I see that Inktomi, Fast/AllTheWeb and AltaVista have all discontinued this service and have moved to Yahoo overture. Why? Is this a trend which other sites will eventually follow?
2. Ask Jeeves (Teoma) is the only one I am aware of which seems to still provide this service. Is it recommended? Any others? Should I submit to more than one, and compare results?
3. Let's say I have 2 pages I want to optimize, page1.html and page2.html. So can I choose a URL to submit such as www.mysite.com/test.html, copy page1.html to that URL, work on that, then, when I am satisfied with it, copy page2.html to that URL and work on it?
Thank you.
It may be submitted, but will it be re-submitted every 24/48 hours? This is critical for my experimenting.
If you had a search engine and knew about two sites, would you think a site that was submitted and resubmitted by a webmaster every day was more popular than the site that was never submitted at all? Submitting a site just means that you're agreeing to a search engine's TOS. It's not necessary and probably won't help at all. I would spend some time reading link development threads. (new to this...) Hi all!
By having your URL on other people's web sites Spiders (say Google) will go though to your link and find your page. The 'better' sites to link to have a better Page Rank (google tool bar) a must have for me! If they have a Page rank of 6 The page must be getting scaned or 'crawled' regularly... as far am im aware a few 'better' link are far better than x amount of PR pages with 1. :) hope this helps

If you send the mail with link exchange, make the mail very short and simple state your name business,
*e.g.*
Link Title: buy stuff here!
Link: www.isellstuffinmyshop.com :)
Link Description: my shop sells things.
try and E-mail people relative to your site... but maybe not in direct competition so if your site is on milk... e-mail farms... don’t hold your breath most will not answer you, try and email people that have a 'links' page and look like they generally link to some good sites... and again BUT! Don’t email people who may have to many links... i.e. 10 pages...
There are so many things you need to watch for!
Maybe they should add a spell checker in here for people like me! ;p
Once again, why would my competitors alow me to do this, or anyone else for that matter?
In fact, the best piece of advice I can give you (apart from "build good content") is to find the keywords important to you, use them as anchor texts and create OUTWARD LINKS from your site to your competitors and other authority sites. (Somehow, I get the feeling that you are new to this and won't be open to this idea!). Yes, link to your competitors!
>> or anyone else for that matter?
You mean like directories? Cause it's their business. Ever heard of DMOZ? Spend some time to find out about it and make a proper submission.
I think you need to spend a lot of time on these forums to appreciate how important it is to get incoming links, and how to get them. You need to be prepared to put in a lot of hard work to get them, to accept rejections and - mostly - indifference/apathy, and have a lot of patience.
Those are the secrets to doing well in SEs. NOT submitting everyday.
Thanks Again!
