Hi

I am working on a project which involves changing the brandname of the company together with company URL.
On newwidgets.com and widgets.com the same content is visible.

The page probably might loose it's rankings because of duplicate content.

Whenever I do: link:www.newwidgets.com and link: www.widgets.com I see the sites pointing to the new: www.widgets.com.

Do you think permanent 301 redirect would be an option?
Is there any other forum where it would be more appropriate to ask that question.

Regards

Do you think permanent 301 redirect would be an option?

In this instance, a 301 Moved Permanently is your best option. You should also plan on mapping all of the old pages to the new pages. Depending on what platform you are on will determine the method used. If on Apache, mod_rewrite. If on Windows, ISAPI_Rewrite or other third party ISAPI filter.

Thank you pageoneresults

What is the best option concerning PageRank?
Having links from main page to the other one, from the HomePage to all important pages on the new domain. Is it an option.

Utilizing the 301 Moved Permanently method will effective transfer PageRank™ from one resource to another. It may take an update or two before seeing final results.

Do a search here at WebmasterWorld for Theme Pyramids. That will help explain the suggested linking structure for transfer of PageRank™.
