I have to try and promote a site that is nearly all pictures. Does anyone have any good tips? I know that the first thing to do is add text to the page, but am not sure how much text the client will accept. Does anyone know if Alt tags are likely to help with the major search engines? Any other advice? Thanks

Cloak or re-design.

Failing either of those heap on the inbound links with relevant keyword text for each (seperately optimised) page - if it isn't at all competetive you may have a small hope if you optimise titles and alt tags well.

separate pages for a sitemap, glossary, photagraphers, photographic equipment, history, etc.

depends on what its about and what your keyword or words are ...I've got one that I wanted as few words as possible on and still have it at #1 to #5 on Keyword 1 + Keyword 2.....

you can make it work for # 1 with just one word of text ....but the design has to be somewhat different from the norm ( and its not using cloaking ) ...but it depends very much on your category and the PR of your competitors....as to if you'll be at # 10 or # 1....

Don't forget that file and directory names have at least a small influence.

/ford/65-mustang.jpg has to be better than /images/1000992.jpg

Thank you all for your help. Lots to think about - it had never occurred to me that file and directory names might make a difference.
