Hello
I've read loads of posts on here today, successful site with Google alone being one of them. I have a retail site and from what i've read i need to add more pages of content with the keywords that are important to me, is that right?
I've started to build a link page and adding to it all the time. But at the moment i'm nowhere to be found on Google. But the first page on msn and yahoo, I really can't get my head around it.
I've been searching the web for someone to help, but they charge so much, when all i really need is to add pages of content, if that is all i need to do. I could write the pages myself I just need them putting onto the site in whatever code it needs to be. (showing what a novice i am now). I just can't help but feel with hard work and a little help i can do this!
Oh to hell with it i'm going back to making vitamins!:)

Everything in "...succesful site with google alone..." is right.

Just follow it. Don't expect it to all happen over night though.

Here [webmasterworld.com] is another good thread.

This [webmasterworld.com] is also another good one. It is kind of long but a good read.

When pages are not indexed, work on link building. When they're indexed, work on adding more pages.

Yes, Teresa, yes, yes, and yes.
You can do it.

Welcome to Webmaster World.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is simple in concept, difficult in actuality (until you get the hang of it), and can be very rewarding.

Oh, and you can find out how to put the pages "onto the site in whatever code it needs to be" here also (not this thread), something I still have difficulty with.

i'm nowhere to be found on Google. But the first page on msn and yahoo

Teresa - This suggests that you probably have reasonably good onpage optimization, but not good inbound links. Google, Yahoo, and Inktomi(now Yahoo for MSN) all look at inbound links, but inbound links are more important on Google than on the other engines. The new Yahoo seems to like inbound links more than Inktomi did, but I've been surprised on Yahoo how little you need for some searches.

You don't mention how new your site is. Google has been slow to rank new sites in the past month, so that may be another factor. Note that Brett's thread says not just "Google alone," but Google alone in 12 months. It does take time.
