How does character symbols affect crawling

We sell alot of products that are trademarked, so we use the trademark symbols frequently right after the product name with no space.

Does this affect how a spider reads the name? Should we put in a space between the product name and the symbol or do the spiders not care?

I'd add the space. But it's really a nice question. Will do some research on it...
