Hi, this is my first "proper" post on here. Been lurking for ages and registered a few weeks ago! Anyway, here's what i was looking for some opinions on.

I am lucky enough to work for a large family company and am creating a portfolio of sites, some of which I have a profit share in along side my annual salary.

The next site we are "going live" on specialises in selling (You guessed it) Widgets of all prices, colours, brands etc.

I have done a bit of SEO in the past and reading around this forum has helped loads, but have really yet to fully crack google "organically" with previous sites.

It seems to be from reading around here that the best thing to do for G and others (along with usual content, Kw's etc etc) is to have some quality links going into our site. So I have created a "link to us" page in our "support centre" section of the web site. I have included a logo link and a regular hyperlink along with the html in a form text field.

Does anyone else use this idea, is it naff, or a good way of getting your site name across to lots of smaller on-topic sites? Opinions/suggestions etc would be great.

Next, as I want our site to become as big a name as possible in our "topic community" i would like to encourage link exchanges for all the reasons i've read on WW. Now, i've created a pure links page within our support centre section for the purpose of most of my outbound links to Manufacturers, Community Sites, Organisations using Widgets etc.

I am uncertain of how having most of my outbound links on one page will be treated by the SE's, especially G...What is the likely, if any impact on PR? What methods do you guys use assuming you want to keep the rest of your professional retail site clear of outbound ads/links etc?

Had good organic success on previous sites on Yahoo and others, but g serps are always lower and sometimes just aren't there. Googlebot swings by regularly too!

How far would having the above links system in place help my rankings over time?...of course i will be approaching big topic resource sites for a link etc soon also.

Cheers for any pointers. Great forum this isn't it! I wish i had found it a year ago...would have helped a lot! hehe oh well.

Welcome to Webmasterworld, guitarslinger!

So I have created a "link to us" page in our "support centre" section of the web site. I have included a logo link and a regular hyperlink along with the html in a form text field.

I'm planning to "force" our worldwide resellers to do so. One reason is SEO/PR - the other is Corporate Design integrity.

Any reports from your experiences would be appreciated :-)
