Difference between normal text links and img links with ALT tag.

Hello all,

Do the SE see a difference between a text link and an image link with an ALT text supplied? Is it preferrable to have a text link?

Google for example counts both links. It does however give higher value to the anchor text of the text link then alt tag of a image link. Anchor text is basically number one factor that Google looks at at the present time so you are better of with text link then alt tag. Of course I think both things are needed to create a well optimized website.

Far preferable. Link anchor text is a major factor in the Google algo. I would be surprised if Google gives much, if any, weight to the alt tag of an img link.
