Hi,

my main site has a traffic rank of ~1.800.000 in Alexa. Alexa shows NO thumbnail for that site.

Another specialty product site of mine with only a few pages and a traffic rank of ~4.800.000 DOES have a thumbnail in Alexa.

Not that it is utterly important, but does anybody has an explanation?

Few things going on.

Those sites don't have that much traffic so they won't be crawled much by Alexa and less likely to have screenshots.

Up until about a week ago there screenshot program was busted (personal communiucation with Alexa).

You can get an image refresh in about 2 days by submitting here
[thumbnails.alexa.com...]

Why not just install the Alexa Toolbar on your computer and click on your site and some internal links 2 - 3 times day for a few weeks. That should get your Alexa ranking down to under 100 000 ... should get cralwed by them then :-) (it would be even better if you had a friend on a different IP address do the same) ....

The Alexa bot is a frequent visitor on my site. I also noticed, that "something" from Alexa pays a visit each time your site is requested from within Alexa. Seems to be a "just checking it's still there" algorithm.

I have - like probably most webmasters - the Alexa toolbar installed. That's what probably brought me below the ~2.000.000 in the first place :-)

Another strange thing: even though I'm not under the top 100.000, still it shows a traffic diagram for my site...
