Too similar?

I understand search engines frown upon many pages that look too similar. My website generates plant portrait pages from a database - they all have relevant, specific content, but a random check of similarity between two pages (using online utility) showed the pages were 55% similar. Is that similar enough to trigger some negative response from search enginers/robots?

What method did you use to establish they were 55% similar?

It was a web-based tool where you entered two URLs. I forget exactly how I got there, but I'm sure it was a link from this site. Just tried to find it again, no luck. I can go back through my logs if it would help.
