Finding New Business Leads

Anyone care to share successful or unsuccessful ways to generate new SEO business? The CPC stuff has not worked well for me, but looking at help wanted ads and writing to the company suggesting they outsource this job to me has been successful a couple of times. Any other ideas people have? Randomly emailing people telling them their site needs optimization seems to be up and down in terms of success.

If you e-mailed me you would never hear back as I would class this as spam.

There are better ways of finding new leads, such as teaming up with a local web design firm, etc.

I can understand your envisioning this as spam because sure it is. But my email's are customized mentioning their current rankings and documents my successes' to date with other clients. And I have only been charging people until they saw results, so there is no risk to them. I have been getting probably a 5% response to my outbound emails. It's a manual approach but it's been working for me given how customized the emails are.

I would suggest a phone call rather than e-mail.
