I have a file ( a FAQ page) that is 236 kb. Is that too big?

That is a very large file! For some of us, that could represent the size of an entire site. ;)

The smaller the better. It has been stated that Google will only index the first 101kb of a page. If you have 236kb, that's 135kb more than Googlebot will fetch per page.

You might want to categorize the FAQs and give each category a new page. This will allow you to provide more focused content to the visitor. It also allows you to make those pages leaner and meaner. You'll be able to achieve greater visibility with 10 pages of FAQs rather than one long scrolling page with named anchors.
