I hope this question isn't too off-topic, but I've been wondering this: What talents/natural abilities make a great SEO?

I guess being hard working/passionate about SEO....and taking action are obviously extremely important.

However, when it comes to other talents/natural abilities, which would you say matter most?

Are the best SEOs you know also some of the smartest folks you know? (or doesn't it matter that much for SEO whether the person is simply somewhat above average when it comes to intelligence vs. being extremely smart)?

@Makaveli2007
Its not necessary that any special kind of a person will be a SEO. lolz.

Perhaps the qualities a SEO must have is searcher, quick concept grasper and good analyzer.

I think that good research / an eye for detail and great organisation are the "best" skills

Forward thinker; some one who can sit down with a problem or a task and see other avenues/methods that are not currently being utilised in order to complete the task or fix the problem.

Upfront honesty and excellent PR skills. You absolutely need to be able to pacify your clients when they start whining about the lack of overnight success you'd already warned them they would not achieve.

1. Recognize big patterns and still stay detail oriented.

2. See everything you do from viewpoints other than your own - a search engine, a visitor, a client, etc.

Have a diploma from Snake Oil Bill's College of Ledgerdemain. It's all a crap shoot, but if you can do nifty spreadsheets and make animated presentations you'll get the gig.
