Affiliate websites

Hello,

Im a newbie advertiser on the internet.I have a site which I am currently marketing.I have plans to use a lot of affiliates.What I want is to register domains closely related to my business and link them all to my main site.However, I have heard that this kind of thing can hurt my site by getting me delisted from the search engines and by other means.Is this true? If not, is it a good idea to register and advertise lets say 1,000 different domain names and have them all link to the same website?

It is not uncommon for people to have many domains that point to the same content. The problem is that Google will only recognize one of them. If you make 1000 other domains that are each different and have them point to your site that is ok. The problem is that there is no real benefit to that unless you advertise the domains outside of Google. It is best to have one site and focus on getting lots of links so you can rank. It is very possible to take most or all the top 10 for a search but that is risky. Google could do a hand penalty if they get too many complaints. It would be a good idea to make 2 or 3 and try to get them all ranked on the first page. Just make sure they are very different and could pass a hand inspection.

Actually the domains would all link to my main site so they would have the exact same content.The reason for the 1,000 different domain is that each domain would have its own different owner and they would all advertise for that specific domain which would link to my main site.
Is that a good idea? I cannot create 1,000 different websites.I have an ecommerce website with over 5,000 items and recreating that would take forever.
What options do I have if I have people willing to advertise a certain domain which links to mine?

Hmmmm....seems awefully spammy to me. I'm pretty sure that if you have a 1000 sites out there, with all the same content, and they are all linking to your one main site, you'll get penalized. Sound a bit like a link farm.

Why do you want to own the domains? Just have an affiliate program and let them get their own. You would be wasting time creating all those domains. I have never heard of that approach before. What is normally done is that you have an affiliate link on your site. People sign up and you give them affiliate codes they can put those anywhere they want.

If you owned the sites and each site had its own IP you could track your affiliates better. You would not have to have code you would just give them credit for any sell that came from their IP. Create all the domains and don't put anything on them. Then when someone signs up you set it up on a web server and give them an ftp login and they can do whatever they want. You can have a template they can use as well. A good example of affiliates using templates is Enom. You can type in certain keywords and bring up every site that uses the Enom default template.

Just to clear it up.I wont own all the domains.Other people will own there own domain but it will link to my site.They will advertise it however they choose, on google, yahoo, offline marketing etc. I have a yahoo store so I can setup the affiliate tracking and pay them for every sale they bring to my site.Would that be a good idea? I will have an affiliate program with MYap but that will be different.I just dont want my site getting delisted from Google or any other search engine.
