how does google track your visitors

Hi. I've read some places that some people speculate that google tracks your site visitors.

If this is true, how would they do that?

here are some ideas... but just wondering if this is true or if there were other ways.

1. By using a redirect on an adwords click through
2. By using the google analytics data on millions of sites
3. Some other hidden tracking on what ppl click on in google results

Does the googlebot read any web stats when it visits?

Just curious how and if and why etc.

Google uses tracking codes on url's in serps. They also have google analytic data. There is way too much data for them to be looking at just your site. What they probably do is break websites down into themes and look at the data from that theme. Google also has toolbar data. I'm sure they are not looking for published analytic data that would be way more trouble than it was worth.
