I have a client that is really bent on a highly visual non text intro page for index.html This will be a tourist promotion site so some visual is good, but my limited SEO experience has me talking against it. Am I right in that you can't have all images, and keywords with no text to associate with?

I'd say it was not that limited. If you are talking against it, then you are on the right track. The home page is the glue that holds everything together. If it is all images and no associated text, you lose quite a bit of visibility. If you are in a competitive industry, all images will bury you in the SERPs.

I've seen many put the splash effects above the fold and then content below. This works fine. And, if you are using CSS to control layout, you can easily present the indexing spiders with content first and then all the images later.

I only wish that we could have thought of that. It seems like the spiders and the image lovers will be happy. Thanks so much!
