How come I never heard of SXSW

I consider myself pretty connected. I have been a very active member of the search marketing community for the last 6 years. I have been to quite a few conferences. There is not one conference that goes on where I don't know at least five or more of the speakers personally. Has this SXSW thing been going on all this time. I moved to Austin last week and all of a sudden everybody I know in the search community was in Austin last week. Is this the first year or has this been going on every year?

I think the festival has been around since about 1987. It began as a music festival, but around 1994 it added what it calls an interactive component to the mix. That's the part that would be of interest to you. It's where, for example, Twitter was launched back in 2007.
