SEO 3-5 pages but only submit index to engines

I am wondering if this method will work.

I am in the process of optimizing a site for search engines. I have 3 keyword phrases I want to target, but I want to target them on 3 seperate pages. Now, I have read that you should only submit 1 page (your index page) to the search engines, and I know this varies on which engine of course, but please look at this example:

Lets say I optimize 3 pages... ie: keyword target (apples) on my index page
(oranges) on page 2
(bananas) on page 3

Now if I only submit my index page (apples) and it gets indexed in the engine... Will my (oranges) and (bananas) pages get crawled and show up on SERPS even though I did not submit them?

Experts Please Advise...

That will work as long as your 'SEO'd' pages are linked from your index page.

And most of the more experienced members here would tell you that they haven't used a SE's submission form in years. It was 2001 for me ;)

Get at least 1 link from a page at another site in the SE's index & your new pages will get spidered without submitting at all. Time varies by SE & importance of the page with the incoming link.
