I have a one page website which I feels is better off if I just keep it as a part of my bigger site. So I am planning to move that 1 page site to bigger site and will be doing 301 redirect for the domain.

Is this the proper way of doing things ? What else should I take care of ?

Regards

> 301 redirect for the domain

There are domain redirects and URI redirects, doesn't matter which you use so long as it covers the actual URI you're speaking of. You might also want to check to see if your homepage is indexed in more than one way (Yahoo! Site Explorer is good for that) and if so, make sure all indexed variations are 301'd to ONE canonical version on your target site.

Lastly, contact all those who link to your old one-pager and ask them to update their links. That will help you versus just relying on 301's to port all your old link equity over to the new URL, which is not as timely or thorough as we'd all like.
