Hello Everyone

I need advice.

I have a website word-word1.com for 3 years. Domain is PR 3, about 1.7k uniques a month. I've exchange few links and written few articles all linking to that domain.

I recently bought domain: wordword1.com because was easier to remember and also looks more professional.

What would be the best thing to do:

1) 301 redirect from wordword1.com into word-word1.com and lave things as they are

2) 301 redirect from word-word1.com into wordword1.com and moved the site to word-word1.com

3) other

Thanks a lot

Frank

I assume word-word1 is the same as wordword1 correct.
So that the case I would use the new domain myself and do a copy of the word-word1 to the other then 301 word-word1 to wordword1

If it is better for the user it is better for the SE. All the link juice should pass to the other domain.

My opinion hope it helps

Hi

Thanks a lot.

Yes, same words with and without hyphen.

But, If I do a site copy into my new domain. The new urls won't have any link popularity?

Also, the content will be duplicate.

Don't you think?

Not if u 301 the hyphend site to the non hyphened site your ok and the link juice will passs from one to the other..

The SE's don't see the content on the 301 pages after it has been put into place and by keeping the urls the same a site 301 is all u need to do as each url will go the the correct url from the 301 site.

If done correctly and I mean the 301's is done correctly you will do well and most likely won't lose any rankings but that is not a given.

Why not writing new content for the other site? You will have 2 domains and that is good for seo

If word-word1.com is working well and has established itself - and is earning money - then you'd do better to 301 from wordword1.com to the existing site.

Changing domains is ALWAYS a risky event, and can seriously damage your site for months.

The perceived benefits very rarely justify the change.

Using two almost identical domain names for separate sites would severely confuse your visitors, and might risk problems with duplicate content. There are many better SEO wheezes than confusing your visitors ;)

I have a similar dilemma myself at the moment. My current site is also wordword.com; however, both words i am using actually make up the main key phrase I have targeted and there fore are being read as one word by the SEs for the simple fact taht they are not hyphenated. Needless to say, this defeats the purpose of having my key phrase in the domain name. I am now thinking about purchasing word-word.com so that my key phrase is recognized in the domain and making word-word.com my main URL and having wordword.com 301 redirect to it. My site is new and has not even been indexed yet, so I am not really risking anything by doing this. I have not received any advice thus far, but I feel this is probably the best way to remedy the situation. Can anyone tell me if this is indeed what I should do? Also, I am about to list in yahoo's directory and DMOZ so that I can get indexed quicker. Should I list the wordword.com or the word-word.com? Will it make a difference as to which one is receiving the links?
