Hi I was wondering if anybody would could cast opinion on what effect my google ranking will have when I upload a new site over the previous one....

I have designed a new site for my company, I started from scratch and have built the site on a CMS rather than just HTML and rewritten the content.

When this is uploaded.... I take it all my pages have to be re-indexed? The content is better than before so hopefully the position won't drop out entirely but increase.

Also is it a good idea to search for all instances of the old site and create pages with the same name and redirect? or allow it to go to 404 or update page with new design with other links pointing back to the CMS.

All thoughts appreciated.... think this is a start of a good thread!

Cheers,

John.

You definitely want to 301 redirect all old pages to new pages. You might take an initial hit, but should eventually come back.
