I'm thinking about going with <snip>

Any comments on this company or any other recommendations? A friend just signed up with them and I'm not sure if its any good yet. My friend said he's paying $3000/ year for their service in getting your site on the SEs. I'm not familar with SEO at all, is that how the typical price for this kind of service?

Right now I'm paying about $1000 a month with overture and google adwords. I would gladly get rid of such an expense.

Thanks

Even if you get good organic results you will probably still find yourself spending $1000 a month on PPC

$3000/Year is fine if you get the results and expensive if not. First thing I would do is look where their site ranks and any references

You might like to edit your post. Specific mentions are a not really allowed.

If you leave it it will most likely get edited for you :)

Just a heads up :)

Personally I would visit their website and check:

1. Their pagerank using the google toolbar

2. All info including the reviews on Alexa

before taking any action.

Although not a thorough check it does give alternative (but maybe biased) opinions.

thanks for the reply.

Also another thing, can I do the SEO myself? I saw my friends pages and all they did to it was have it linked to some other websites and i guess those other websites linked back to it. Also, there were a bunch of html files(like 100 or so) that just linked back to the main page.

I can see its doable in a way that you do it yourself, but it seems to require alot of work. I don't want to blow away $3000 in one shot and have the risk of not getting ranked at all in any of the first few pages.

Can someone recommend others to me?

Rule no. 1:

Never guess (especially with seo companies)

Rule no. 2:

It is very possible to do it yourself, there are many, many people here who can help you do that. You are the main influence either just click the site search button at the top of this page or read as many of the threads in as many of the forums here as you can.

For the terms of service for this website I would recommend:

[webmasterworld.com...]

For link development I would recommend:

[webmasterworld.com...]

For Google optimization (which often leads to other search engines anyway) I would recommend:

[webmasterworld.com...]

And when you have got your chops round those I would recommend:

[webmasterworld.com...]

I think before anyone here could really make any decisions about how much is too much, it makes sense to look at the number of pages you have on your site, what type of site it is (content, etc...) and if you have any way to measure ROI.

The good news is that if you're paying $1000 a month on Overture and AdWords, you only pay for traffic you get... this isn't necessarily the case for organic search.

In general, though, I would say that $3000 a year is a great price for organic for a small business. Think about everything that has to be done... initial analysis, keyword research, content editing, meta tag writing, etc...

I know someone who starts his packages at 3000.
Maybe it is the same guy?
If it is the same guy I assure you he is very good with plenty of examples to prove it.

If you choose to hire a SEO, listen to the good advice here and require proof of performance.

If you choose to do it yourself, use the forums and the search engines to find the relevant training to get you going.

Which way you go depends on whether you have more time or more money. But the end result should be a lower tab by far for PPC.
