I've taken the plunge recently and moved into offices and taken on a member of staff! I also recently invested in a decent stats program which has been invaluable!
The site is currently converting around 0.8% of visitors to an enquiry, although 5% are going to the quote page (which is really simple). I've also started PPC this week and with 600 clicks haven't achieved one conversion (not good ROI)
I would be interested to find out what other people are achieving for conversions and any particularly good advice for improving it?
One specific question is that the home page is quite content heavy and I wonder if this puts people off, and whether I should slim down to a couple of key messages and a call to action?
Any recommended books, advice and experience greatly appreciated!
Make the calls to action redundant. Hit them over the head with what you want them to do. They've made the conversion determination within seconds of reaching your website, don't try to talk them into converting after they've been on for a minute or two. They're gone by then if they haven't figured out what you want them to do.
