Hello Everyone! My apologies, but here's another question from me to pick your brains.

I have a website dedicated to free <downloads>, which have some ads that link to my main ecommerce site. There are options to request custom <items> for free as well.

Back in the 90s there were automated scripts, or a directory listings of free stuff website submissions that posts to places similar to coupons site, or hotscripts (but dedicated to freebies). I'm very out of touch with freebie promotions, so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone still remembers, or still does, this type of SEO/marketing?

Should I be redoing webrings? (nostalgia attack....)

Also do you have any tips and tricks for this type of "action" that you can share with me? All thoughts are very welcomed!

Once again, a thanks in advance towards the community.

Forget about the "freebie" part of it and promote it just like you would any other website.

Links, directory submissions, social bookmarks, press release, lots of good content and pages on the site, etc.

Thank you for your reply.

But I do remember the web having loads of freebie directories, and that there are automated softwares that does this.

Why would I want to use an automated software? It's because 1) it's time saving and most importantly 2) It scores a lot of directories that I would otherwise not find.

The time saving part is just a bonus, but the 2nd point gives me access to hundreds of free software directories that I'd be hard pressed to filter out of google results.

That is just my opinions.
