When Google finds text that looks like www.somedomain.com does it possibly mean anything more than just text to Google; ie. could that lead to www.somedomain.com getting crawled?

What considerations and recommendations would you make in terms of search engine marketing, when it comes to putting the text of your domain on your own site, and other sites?

If someone does a search on your site, what should they find?

Any tips?

It is next to pointless to put your domain name in text on your site unless it is composed of keywords, for example: home-delivered-groceries.example.com

IMHO it would be poor practice to have your domain name appear as text only, particularly with no hyperlink from the other site(s), the easy thing to have the bot do is take it as a mark against the domain - 'why is it being mentioned but not hyperlinked?' too easy to assume it's being mentioned in a bad light.

Here's a free tip: Have external sites link valuable keyword phrases to your site, this means having them make the anchor of the link something like 'home delivered groceries', they can put the URL in plain text near that link with no harm to positive effect this has.
