Shouldn't people fix their Wordpress URLS to end with .html vs. folder

Hi,
I notice many seo'd wordpress blogs have urls like:
www.example.com/this-is-my-blog-post/

Why would you make all your blog posts a folder? Shouldn't it be more like:

www.example.com/this-is-my-blog-post.html

I can't see how making a page its own folder being a good thing, both in a information architecture point of view or seo.

comments?

Why would you make all your blog posts a folder? Shouldn't it be more like:

www.example.com/this-is-my-blog-post.html

Or, like...

www.example.com/this-is-my-blog-post

...with no slash.
