I am doing the SEO for:
The Widgets Company.

Ive followed all the usual instructions like putting keywords in H1 tags, keywords in bold, keywords in italic.
I then added a links page and started exchanging links.

And yet, after a year, nothing, the site still ranks appaulingly. It's so frustrating :(

Maybe too much competition?

Try variations of the keyword phrase on each internal page.

Also, make sure you have at least a couple of paragraphs of supporting text with the keyword phrase repeated a couple of times.

Make sure your keyword density isn't too high.

Did you include the keyword in the Title tag? That's the most important part. However, I've found that if it is repeated three times in the title that my site drops. Two times max, but I try for only one.

Are you sure you didn't buy a domain name that has been banned?

Good luck.

Is your website fully indexed? if yes, are all page titles optimized? If yes, do all pages rank well (page rank)? if that is also there, I think you should be on the top. Work a bit and it's not difficult if it's not TOOOO MUUUUUCCCCHH competition.

To get a good placement requires a combination of at least a dozen things. If one of these is wrong it can cause a ripple affect.

I can't post everything (I'd be out of a job if I did hehe) but the most important ones are:

1. Content
2. Title tag different on each page
3. Link exchange done _Correctly_
4. Content
5. Java free navigation or standard hyperlinks if java used
6. Content
7. Site map for larger web sites
8. Have I mentioned content yet?
9. Being added on sites like DMOZ
10. Content

I don't care what anyone else says content is King. Without a lot of text on pages people won't find you. You should never concentrate on just the home page; your whole site is as important as the home page.

I just come back from a great nights sea fishing and I'm in a really good mood so sticky me your URL and I'll have a look and make some suggestions.

Simon.
