Planning for success
Many years ago I sat down and planned a web strategy. I worked out what the topics were, what commercial slant they would take, thought about the audience and traffic levels, and how it all related to monetization. I also thought about the ability to attract one way inbound links. That was the planned batch.

Seeing what sticks
A few years back I decided to build out some other domains and let them fight it out to see which had promise. Some sites sprouted, others strugged to germinate. So I took the winners and added more content and developed the links and watched them grow. That was the luck batch.

So now I have sites that are winners, arriving on different roads. I like planning things out, but I have to say I like the magic that comes from the random situation.

What is your take?

  • What role does the gut play in discovering a great idea?

  • When is better to let the brain come out and play?

What are your thoughts on intuition, luck, and deliberate planning?

We here believe that a man can only do one thing properly at a time. So we run few projects but put a lot of effort into them.
Every time we start a new project we allow pretty long time to see if it works.

I think you forgot prayer ;)

  • Intuition -- every entrepreneur claims to have it.
  • Luck -- every entrepreneur wants to have it.
  • Deliberate Planning -- every entrepreneur did it.

So I took the winners and added more content and developed the links and watched them grow. That was the luck batch.

My emphasis added

I don't believe in luck and as a self-proclaimed entrepreneur myself I must admit that I have no desire of luck as we (collectively as a society) think we know it. And I know you well enough and can see here that this wasn't just plain luck! The verbs "added", "developed" and "watched" are action items, meaning you did some work. I call that "deliberate" planning, my friend!

Hey, you asked for my thoughts :)
