One way link to a site on the same server. Is it ok?

Will it cause any penalty?

Hey guys:)

Well...
Suppose there are 2 sites on the "Same" web host. And i was to have a "one way" link to *Only* the other site. Will it cause any penalty or possible banning of the sites?

I ask because i read somewhere that if you own sites on the "same" host you should Not be linking the sites up because the search engines can detect the linking because they would have the same IP or server. (but not sure about this. Maybe i misunderstood.)

Q.1. So if there are 2 sites that i "own" on the "same" Host, is it ok to have a "one way" link to the other site?(one site will Not link back.)
Q.2. Any Penalties/banning?

Ex. Site "A" links to site "B".(no link back from site "B".)
(Both on the same host.)

Well...

Thanks for the help guys:)
*Please only answer if you really know:)

Thanks again fellas:)

hi,

that too was one of my main concerns before to determine if it will affect my search result ranking, but by trial and error i found out that it really doesn't influence much on rankings - as long as there are only a few 2-3 maybe 4 coming from the same server IP:

It's logical for a site owner to have both owned sites at the same host. A single link from one to the other is fine.

The only possible issue would be if both sites were going for the same topic/audience/keywords. Worse still if they had more or less the same kind of content. But site owners who do that tend to try and hide the relationship, and thus probably would not be cross linking anyway.
