We generate alot of traffic to our site, and i monitor customers browsing our site constantly, yet they are not buying. Where should i look for help?

I think the biggest factor would be, are the users targeted?

You might also want to revise your on-page copy. Perhaps tweaking the wording might be enough to influince users into becoming customers.

How would you distinguish between targeted and non targeted

i don't think that there is a proper answer because there are so many factors that it could be.

Personally I would say that if people are not buying but you're getting the hits then it's most likely to be they find faults with the design of the site. It could be confusing navigation, a non-trusting looking design or feel or something else along those lines.

My advice would be to get a friend who has very limited knowledge about the internet and get them to try and buy something from the site and see where the faults lay.

good one simonuk

i used to run online shopping mall and we had similar problem

things to watch out for are

1) how manny click to shopping cart
2) how secure the website looks (does it feel like people have no problem leaving their cc there)
3) put begginer on it and see where he goes first and what he click's first
4) promotions (free shipping, but one get one type of thing)

hope this helps

I have the same problem sometimes. You would think that this would be a constant. Everyday you recieve about the same amount of traffic lets say 1000clicks. Well on day one you get 50 sales but on day two you only get 10. Whats the deal with this.

Can the site be down to some users but I can view pages correctly?

Why would people leave on my ordering online page?

They already know the prices have navigated through the site but before entering CC#'s they leave?

Help...

"How would you distinguish between targeted and non targeted"

General you can find out where the user is comming from. If they are following links from other sites, are the other sites targeted to your theme.

If a high percentage of your users are arriving from search engines you might want to see what search terms they are using. Sometimes you will find searchers are looking for information as opposed to wishing to purchase.

You're assuming that they came to your site to buy. What if they came looking for product support? Or information about your Returns Policy? What if they already bought your widget elsewhere, and just wanted to compare your prices?

If they're leaving at the last step before giving their credit card information, is it because they had to go that far to find out your shipping costs? Or maybe the secure server system you're using doesn't instill confidence? I've done that a lot -- put things in my cart, start to checkout, and then when it comes time to give my credit card information, I get sent to some cheesy, 3rd-party commerce provider that just doesn't look trustworthy enough to give them my credit card details. There goes a sale down the drain.....

Once you have got hard-earned visitors you need to:

1) Create DESIRE - You need to present your product as well as possible, using great photos and well-written copy for a start. However there are hundreds of books about making people want to buy your product.
2) Make it as easy as possible for visitors to satisfy their desire instantly by buying your products. E.g. nice fast site with simple-to-use credit card ordering.

  • Shipping
Shipping charges, if perceived as too high, can throw people off. Also, if you don't quote shipping charges people are less likely to submit an order. GIVE THEM THE FINAL PRICE BEFORE THEY ENTER THEIR CC INFO. And let them know when they can expect delivery.

  • Checkout/Sign-up Process
Some sites ask for way too much information. DOB, GENDER, et al. This can make people think that they're participating in a marketing study and that their info is going to be sold to other companies. Some sites require people to select a username and password. This isn't always necessary. Only require the information needed to get the order out the door (And obviously phone number and stuff).
