does it have to mean it is competitive keyword?
would it be harder to rank on some keyword that shows 50 000 results but all listed sites die hard to rank good on that keyword?
Search the phrase using quotes, it will give you a better idea of the amount of competing pages. Head over to the Overture tools [content.overture.com] and find out how many searches a month are being done for the phrase as well as how much people are willing to pay per click.
Using all of this information will give you a clearer sense as to how competitave the phrase truly is.
